Vergangenheitsbewältigung

My wonderful friend Eva thinks that I should share my poems and stories, my observations of language, relationships, and (patchwork) family life with a wider audience. She says I speak for many women of my age group, working mothers who have survived relationship break-ups, teenage kids, and other disasters. As in the past, some of my postings will be in German, some in English. I think I will also try to capture more of my thoughts about what these languages mean to me, how they affect me, and us as a family. Like many bilingual people I feel privileged but also ultimately rootless, which is also something I would like to share and explore with you.

For today, I would like to recommend a book: The Registrar's Manual for Detecting Forced Marriages by Sophie Hardach. Beautifully written and captivating.
